So we're in the middle of a week long rush to renovate and decorate the hair and makeup room, so I decided that a walk down memory lane would be the perfect topper for the middle of this week. So if you're new here, you may not know that I've been taking boudoir photos for a LOOOOOOOONG time! I actually starting in Montana somewhere around 12 years ago (wow) in a little home studio. I was a military spouse at the time and we lived on the Air Force base. Getting ladies signed on and off the base was a super pain in the ass! It wasn't long before I outgrew my little home studio and decided to move on up to something else. 2My Next studio was in this creepy building that I think was an old hospital. It had been renovated into an office building but I still heard all the ghost stories from the locals. I personally had several eerie things happen but that's for another blog! This boudoir studio was 2 connecting rooms and it was a whopping 220 square feet total. It was cramped but it was so much nicer to have something outside my home. I was really proud of it! I had my friends help me move my stuff and repaint the walls (pink of course!) I stayed there until I left Great Falls, Montana in 2010. The Illinois Studios!Once I got to Illinois in 2010 I was able to find another tiny studio space. This was in Troy. It was the only boudoir studio in Troy, IL at the time (pretty cool) and again it was pretty homey. I still stuffed it with wardrobe, pinup clothing, sets and of course everything had a bit of a vintage or mid century modern feel. Unfortunately this space was just too small. I was starting to really spread my wings and I needed something bigger. My tiny story studio was still super cute! My first HUGE studio! So this sucker was BIG. Something like 3500 square feet. It had a waiting room hair and makeup room, offices, main studio, closet, bathroom... you name it! It had been a friend of my fathers office building so he ended up fixing it up with the help of my father before I moved in. We added our personal touches and did our best to brighten the space up. I loved this space but I yearned for something I could really make my own. This was when I started house hunting with a home studio in mind... It was love at first sight!Well kind of.... I could see the potential. It was there! But there was a lot that wasn't there as well. Like Walls. Or Ceilings. Or closets. Lucky for me my dad is a hell of a handyman and with the help of my husband they were able to complete the first phase of the studio renovation! As you can see, decoration wise, I went through a couple of phases but the studio was far from finished. Still no walls or ceiling but, hey, we had a floor! And then it was time for the final renovation.... This time it was me and my daddy busting our butts on the final steps of the studio. We added the finished walls, ceilings and trim. I finally got to decorate and put all the things I have been hording away for this exact day into the studio. It was JUST what I wanted all along. Fuck, it was better! I had just changed my business name from Vintage Imagery Photography to GlamMarr studios, Inc. It was a posh sounding change and I felt like the change in the studio went perfectly with the name. BUT.... It didn't stop there...I mentioned it was love at first site when I laid eyes on my home for the first time... that's not entirely true. There were so many things that I hated and that needed to be updated (there still are) but guess what!? We started to chip away at those as well. And I FINALLY have my perfect Mid Century Modern Boudoir studio! This little time capsule was something I always wanted for my boudoir studio! Its like a trip back into an old Playboy magazine. I couldn't be happier! My clients LOVE this set up and I have request to shoot in it often. IMO its the most unique boudoir studio near St. Louis, Mo. Can you believe this little gem is in Collinsville, IL? So that brings us to today...Like the other areas, this room has been through more than one renovation already. I have BIG plans for this sucker... Here is where we are right now. We intend to be mostly done my MONDAY. Yea... that's only a few days away (yikes!) Are you excited to see the big reveal? Be sure to join our private ladies only FB group where I'll be going LIVE showing the reno when its finished!!! I CANNOT wait! Archives November 2017
